What We Do

What
We
Do

Junior Milers is a running training program serving youth ages 10 to 18 from Chittenden County. Since 2004, over 500 youth have participated in the program.
Experienced volunteer coaches guide participants through a 12-week training process that earns them the opportunity to participate in the Vermont City Marathon as a marathoner, half marathoner, or part of a 5-person team.
Through the Junior Milers training process we promote goal setting, community involvement, social interaction, physical fitness, and personal accomplishment. Because there is no cost to participants, Junior Milers is an inclusive program supporting all kids.
We understand the economic barriers to participation in youth sports and have developed a strategy to provide kids the opportunity to better themselves through the gift of this program. Junior Milers provides professionally fitted running shoes, proper running attire, a training program, guided nutrition, and race event fees, all at no cost to participants. We partner with local youth organizations that already serve those in need and coordinate with faculty and staff at local middle and high schools to recommend participants and introduce kids to the program.
